Reinhold Messner famously described K2 (8,611m) as "the most impressive but the most difficult peak in the world to ascend." Known among indigenous Balti people as Chogori ("The King of Mountains"), K2 rules over the Central Karakoram on the border of Pakistan and China. It is globally recognized by mountaineers as "The Savage Mountain" and the true mountaineer's mountain.
Unlike Mount Everest, K2 presents unrelenting technical difficulties from base camp to summit. The route follows the historic Abruzzi Spur (first summited on July 31, 1954, by Italian legends Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli), navigating House's Chimney, the Black Pyramid, and the infamous Bottleneck Couloir beneath a colossal hanging serac.

Welcome to Pakistan! Reception by the Hunza Adventure Tours expedition team at Islamabad International Airport and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, assemble for expedition orientation and document verification.
Alpine Club of Pakistan & Ministry Briefing
Official expedition briefing at the Ministry of Alpine Affairs / Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP). Introduction to your assigned military Liaison Officer and final permit clearances.
Flight to Skardu or Scenic Drive via Karakoram Highway
Spectacular 45-minute mountain flight past Nanga Parbat and K2 into Skardu (or 2-day drive along the mighty Indus canyon via KKH and Chilas in case of flight cancellation).
Final Logistics, Cargo Weighing & Porter Assembly in Skardu
Full logistics preparation day in Skardu. Weigh and tag expedition cargo (75 kg/climber), conduct final gear check with climbing staff, and arrange fresh provisions.
4x4 Jeep Drive from Skardu to Askole (Trailhead)
Thrilling 6-7 hour 4x4 Land Cruiser drive up the Shigar Valley and Braldu River gorge to Askole village, the last inhabited outpost before the Karakoram wilderness.
Trek up Baltoro Glacier to K2 Base Camp via Concordia
6-day trekking caravan up the Braldu Valley and onto the 62km Baltoro Glacier. Camps at Jhola (3,200m), Paiju (3,450m), Khoburtse (3,930m), Urdukas (4,050m), Goro II (4,380m), and Concordia (4,650m), reaching K2 Base Camp on Day 12.
39 Days of Acclimatization, Route Fixing & K2 Summit Push (8,611m)

Hunza Adventure Tours promulgates its terms and conditions for any kind of expedition, mountaineering, trekking, and base camp logistic support operated by the company in Pakistan.
Expedition Reservation & Payment Terms
- 40% advance deposit is required upon booking confirmation to secure climbing permits, Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) clearances, military Liaison Officer assignments, and cargo allocations.
- The full balance settlement must be cleared upon arrival in Islamabad before the official Ministry briefing.
- Advance deposits are directly deposited into our official bank account via international wire transfer.
- Permit royalty fees are non-refundable once approved and processed by the Ministry of Tourism.

Deposits covering government climbing royalties, ACP permits, and environment fees are non-refundable once committed. Refunds on remaining logistical balances are subject to written notice and expenses incurred.
Individual private member sleeping tents are provided at Base Camp. In city hotels, twin sharing applies; single hotel room supplement is available on request.
No refund is given to climbers who decide to leave Base Camp early or abandon their summit bids prior to the scheduled 60-day conclusion.
Safety protocols, environmental Leave-No-Trace rules, and military Liaison Officer directives must be strictly observed at all times.
8000m mountaineering demands extreme patience, endurance, and adaptability to unpredictable Karakoram weather windows and high-altitude conditions.
All expedition members must have valid high-altitude mountaineering insurance covering helicopter rescue up to 8,611m and medical repatriation.
Climbers and team leaders have autonomy over high-altitude climbing tactics and route fixing above Base Camp in coordination with other climbing teams.
Climbers must submit full passport copies, climbing resumes, and bio-data at least 60 days prior for Ministry clearances and Mountaineering Visa approvals.
High-altitude mountaineering involves inherent objective dangers including avalanches, serac falls, and altitude illness. Participants undertake climbs at their own risk.
While domestic flights between Islamabad and Skardu are booked, land transit via the Karakoram Highway is maintained as standard backup.

What climbing experience is required for K2?
K2 is the world's most demanding 8000m peak. Climbers must possess extensive previous experience on 7000m and 8000m peaks (such as Broad Peak, Spantik, Gasherbrum II, or Manaslu/Everest), mastery of steep mixed rock/ice terrain (House's Chimney, Black Pyramid), and extreme high-altitude self-reliance.
What base camp facilities are provided?
We provide a deluxe heated dining mess tent with carpeted flooring, individual member sleeping tents with thick foam mattresses, 24/7 solar generator charging stations, satellite comms terminal, professional high-altitude kitchen staff, and fresh nutritious meals throughout the 60-day expedition.
Can you arrange high-altitude Sherpa / HAP support and bottled oxygen?
Yes! We offer customized full-support packages including experienced High Altitude Porters (HAPs) or Nepali Sherpa climbing guides, Poisk/Summit oxygen cylinders, TopOut masks, and regulator sets delivered directly to K2 Base Camp.
How are medical emergencies handled at Base Camp?
Our Base Camp is equipped with a Gamow hyperbaric bag, medical oxygen cylinders, comprehensive trauma & high-altitude medication kits, pulse oximeters, and direct satellite link to Askari Aviation military helicopter rescue services.
